Rock to Recovery was created to bring the therapeutic and transformative experience of writing, and playing music, to non-musicians, helping to soothe the restless souls of those in recovery. We do this by creating a “band.” creating and recording songs together with Rock to Recovery’s staff of professional musicians, who are also in recovery.
We help bring fun into treatment and recovery by offering a natural escape from the fear-based mind. This helps people grow a sense of belonging and self-esteem. We help to vent emotions by writing lyrics and singing together for release, in real-time. We tie in a positive theme of hope in recovery throughout the whole process. When the session is done, our “band” members feel a new energy all throughout their minds and spirits.

A Try on Therapy session is a therapeutic immersion learning experience. In order to bridge the gaps between mental health pratiticioners, marketers, and the general public, Erica Kesse, MS, created Try on Therapy and pitched it to Austin Harrison, Founder of the Mental Health Marketing Conference (MHM) as a new initiative to be a part of the July 2018 Mental Health Marketing Conference.
Try on Therapy began as a one-of-a-kind first- hand experience for the MHM attendees to participate in and explore the therapeutic process. Eleven (11) attendees signed up to "try" a 15-minute session with our eight (8) hand-selected therapists to learn what happens behind closed doors of a therapy room and become more familiar with the “product” of mental health therapy. The therapists consisted of culturally diverse Licensed Professional Counselors, a Social Worker, a Marriage and Family Therapist, and a Psychologist. Conference feedback noted how participating in a Try on Therapy session enhanced the participants’ overall conference experience and regarded sessions as being "highly beneficial". Of the 10 participants seen at MHM 2018, at least one began and completed mental health therapy.
In September 2018, Try on Therapy provided sessions at "Free to Be" an event hosted by the Sexual Assault Center's Black Advisory Board. Of the 5 participants seen, two became a client of a mental health pratiticioner.
This year, Try on Therapy returns to the MHM with new partners, an expanded ideology, and group therapy sessions. Try on Therapy has aligned among three partners, who have set out to change the way therapy is approached, which ultimately spurs forward the mission of eliminating stigma associated with mental health services. Try on Therapy now offers individual therapists a membership to an elite network of colleagues, who provide 15 min free “Try sessions” as well as sign off on a Code of Conduct superseding the normal policies of these helping professions. Lastly, participants at MHM 2019 will get an opportunity to try a group therapy and will be provided with referrals to local and national mental health resources.
